8-29-2014 news release arson dog– New Arson Dog Vehicle to be Unveiled –

SANTA BARBARA, Ca. August 29, 2014 – The Santa Barbara County Fire Department will be hosting an upcoming media event to unveil a vehicle and equipment purchased for the Arson Task Force.

Riley, a black Labrador Retriever, is a member of the Santa Barbara County Fire Department and is an Accelerant Detection Canine. Riley and his handler Fire Captain/ Investigator Howard Orr are certified by the Maine Criminal Justice Academy and are part of the Arson Task Force. They are also available to respond to fire scenes throughout the Tri-Counties and beyond upon request. The training program for Riley and Howard was funded by State Farm Insurance Companies and is available to fire departments and law enforcement agencies across the United States.

A vehicle designed for Riley was recently purchased by an anonymous donor through the Santa Barbara Firefighters Alliance. The vehicle includes an early warning heat detection system along with many other unique features.

A press conference is scheduled for 10am on September 3, 2014 at Santa Barbara County Fire Department Headquarters, located 4410 Cathedral Oaks Rd. in Santa Barbara, CA.  The press conference will include brief statements from Fire Chief Michael W. Dyer, Paul Cashman representing State Farm Insurance and Santa Barbara Firefighters Alliance President, Captain Howard Orr, and District Attorney Joyce Dudley. Riley will be available and there will be a demonstration of the newly donated vehicle.
